Hi divas,

It’s Mo aka DJ Gay Panic, and this(!) is The Deviant Dispatch. I’m blogging from my corner of the NYC underground to bring you subcultural musings, scene updates, and queer shit. There will be typos.

This edition of the newsletter is so spicy I had to paywall most of it in honor of the little shame and decency I have left. I almost didn’t put it online for fear of being Hannah from HBOs Girls, but I’m being brave and posting through it.

Before we do that, here’s a collection of events for the coming weeks. They’re all railing against our current dystopia in one way or another. The revolution is calling, and it needs you to get off your couch and go shake your ass!

If you don’t like the events below, I suggest attending a protest in the street, ideally for Mahmound Khalil.

XOXO,

Mo

Operation FAW 5: American Feminization Worldwide!

When: Saturday, March 15th (or like EARLY Sunday the 16th), 1am - 1pm

Where: a secret warehouse location

What: FAW (which stands for faggots are women) is a party organized in part by the poet Kay Gabriel, and it shares her verbal flair. This one’s brilliantly written event description is mostly in spanish, but phrases like Walter Mercado glam, Come b2b Brasil, and “Do or DEI” reward gringos willing to sit with the text.

The theme is clearly playing on xenophobia and transphobia: the party promises to enact “American Feminization Worldwide.” The DJs all are known to pull from Latin American musical references, and as the door person posted on instagram “Y’all better be latina when I get there.”

The party shares a door policy with Zero Chill that has made it quite controversial with the fire island set, a classic demographic to piss off for the sake of cool. The policy, in the words of FAW 5? “Ya sabes la ley beibi: bring a morra, be a morra, bring a muñeca, be a muñeca. Estamos so deadass.”

How much: $30-50 at the door depending on how correctly you approach.

LustSickPuppy (In The Round)

When: Wednesday, March 19, 7-10ish

Where: Elsewhere - The Hall

What: Techno-punk vocalist LustSickPuppy has been the go-to opener for years for nationally touring acts like Machine Girl and Death Grips. Musically they pair confrontational raps1 with full throated yells over beats that veer from pummeling noise to manic brightness. They’re also known for the kind of stage attire that once was sold at Hot Topic. This show is being staged “in-the-round” style that’s becoming increasingly popular thanks to Boiler Room The support includes longtime faves of mine Deli Girls. If you were considering trying out a Juggalo-coded outfit, this would be the show. Either way I would bring earplugs.

How much: $27.84 including ticket fees

Anya's Birthday Benefit For Envision Freedom Fund

When: Sunday, Mar 23, 4-10pm

Where: Umbra

What: Brooklyn nightlife host and standup comedian Anya Volz celebrates their birthday with some of her fave underground New York DJs to raise money for the Envision Freedom Fund --- the largest bail fund in the country for people being held in ICE detention centers. The DJs (Nita Aviance, Rose Kourts, ect) are far bigger than acts that typically play a venue of Umbra’s size, increasing the gag-factor of this already iconic lineup. You can expect classic club music ranging from house to techno. The party also will feature performances by Bumper, Pissy Mattress + more! The club kid NYSocialBee & performance artist Madam President are also on hosting duties.

How much: $25-50

Now it’s time for a tale of deviant behavior from my recent past. The working title is “Advanced Faggotry in a Trad World.” ENJOY
