a portrait of the author (I might do this more often tbh)
Hi hi howdy howdy hi hi,
Welcome to The Deviant Dispatch. It’s Mo, your guide to the underground world of Brooklyn and beyond. On Wednesday I write about events for free. On Friday I write about gossip, usually for paying subscribers (just $5 a month!). If you can, please consider becoming a paying subcriber so I can pay rent. If you don’t have the coins, please just share this with someone!
Everyone is talking about Sex and The City Reboot's omission of Samantha and questioning how the show will go on in her absence. In fact, her absence is a natural step in the show's slide towards blatant conservatism. Despite the word sex in the title, the show was remarkably close-minded. Carrie Bradshaw was bi-phobic, Miranda treated service workers like trash ( “are you allowed to talk to me like that.” she snapped at someone who reminded her to say please).
The character of Samantha was often the one pushing the prudish other 3 out of their comfort zones, but even she was blatantly anti-trans and said things like “I don’t see color, I see conquests.” The show was always about white woman who thought their modern womanhood was transgressive without realizing how much they represented the status quo. Now that Samantha is gone from the cast there’s no one to distract from the show’s centrist worldview. At least we will always have the blowjob monologue.
It’s pretty light on events this week, but next week there’s an uptick in parties (and I’m not talking the inauguration). See you then! Unless you’re a paying subscriber, in which case I’ll see you on Friday.
Xoxo

Oceanator / Maneka virtual tour
When: 7pm Thursday and Friday at whatever timezone the bands are playing in that day
Where: https://oceanator.surf/virtualtour
What: Live shows remain out of reach for the foreseeable future (maybe this summer?) but fledgling indie rock outfits Oceanator + Maneka have come up with a unique way to tour. Instead of traveling from city to city, the duo will "perform" (via stream) a set tailor made for each city, including covers of local bands and different stage setups. The tour starts M and promises to breathe life into the stale concert streaming experience.
How much: $10
That’s it for this dispatch. If you liked it please consider forwarding this email to a pal! If you’re the pal please subscribe. I write twice a week: once about upcoming worthy events (for free subscribers) and once about underground news and gossip (for paying members). You can send me tips about either by emailing thedeviantdispatch@gmail.com . If you care about drag queens, illegal parties, independent music/art/film/fashion, Charli XCX, and rebellion, you need to read The Deviant Dispatch.
