The Legends of Brooklyn Come Together
Drag and Rock legends alike are spending this week reflecting on their legacy
Hello Deviants,
Welcome to The Deviant Dispatch. I’m Mo, your guide to the underground world of Brooklyn and beyond. On Wednesday I write about events for free. On Friday I write about gossip for money (paying members only).
Hope you’re doing well in our scary winter world where it’s dark for most of the day. There’s not many events. It’s understandable: the cold weather, the rising rates, the disinterest in streaming alternatives.
But life goes on, and there are a couple of intrepid entertainers trying to make shows happen. What’s certainly not slowing down is the gossip, but you’ll need to subscribe Friday for that.
Onwards and onwards, you fuckers.
xoxo

Parquet Courts - On Time!
When: Dec 10th, 10pm NYC time
Where: https://noonchorus.com/parquet-courts/
What: The post-punk band Parquet Courts are a mainstay for any scruffy punk who wears too-small beanies. Their upcoming live streamed show will commemorate their first gig ever — which took place at Monster Island on December 17, 2010 — and will also incorporate rare archival footage and new interviews. I just hope they play the absolute bop “Stoned and Starving”.
How Much: $15
It’s a Blissed Life with Charly Bliss
When: Saturday, 7pm NYC time
Where: https://go.seated.com/events/2730b9ea-8900-4387-9cb2-a017817eba70
What: While it’s not their anniversary, the indie-pop band Charly Bliss are throwing a holiday show all the same. They promise special guests, Q&As, and Christmas covers. In the past they’ve covered “All I Want For Christmas is You” quite well, so expect top tier stuff.
How Much: $5
Horrorchata + Merrie Cherry Present : Brooklyn Legends
When: Dec 13th, 10pm NYC time
Where: https://www.twitch.tv/princess4evr
What: The Brooklyn drag scene does currently occupy a strong hold on the national conversation. The borough’s arty crew have produced several Rupaul’s Drag Race competitors and even a winner in Sasha Velour. There’s also a host of talent who are making their way without the show’s help.
Horrorchatta (of the festival Bushwig), and Merrie Cherry (BK fixture and mother to many) are showcasing that this week. They’ve assembled a lineup of Brooklyn’s most seasoned and respected performers. This is not a necessarily a best and brightest list. It’s instead a moment to reflect on performers who have been active long enough to inspire a generation entering the scene. I copied the full lineup below for your convenience, but trust me they meant it when they said legends.
Aja , Charlene , Crimson Kitty, K. James , Lady quesadilla , Macy Rodman , Miss Malice, Misty Meaner , Momo Shade , Mocha Lite , Miz Jade , Rify Royalty , Sasha Velour, Scarlet Envy, Thorgy Thor, Tyler Ashley, Untitled Queen
If you don’t go to this party the least your could do is follow all these people on Instagram. I’ve already hyperlinked their names for you, so you have no excuse.
How much: $10 suggested donation
