The IRL Return of Brooklyn Venue Elsewhere
plus Charli XCX and Boiler Room Collaborate on a Party
a topical tweet from me
Hello Deviaaaaants!
Welcome to another edition of The Deviant Dispatch, your guide to the best events in Brooklyn and the best alternative culture anywhere.
The IRL bar scene continues to flourish as NYC makes the most of Phase Four. While they don’t have any events I’m shouting out, mainstay bars Mood Ring and Happyfun Hideaway have both re opened with beefed up patios. The vibe at the latter is especially strong.
Without further ado, here’s your event forecast. Don’t forget to subscribe to the paid tier of this newsletter to support me.

Cabernet Caberet
When: Wednesday, 8pm EST
Where: cabcabaug12.eventbrite.com
What: The triumphant return of Cat Cohen’s hilarious cabernet and comedy show. Once hosted IRL at Club Cumming, she moved it to instagram live during Quar before going on hiatus, but now she’s back with a pay portal and a stacked bill. I’m most excited about music from indie rocker Palehound, but I’m confident I’ll walk away from this night with a new comedy fave.
How Much: $5-10
How I’m Feeling Now Live!
When: Thursday, 6pm EST
Where: BLRRM.TB/CHARLI
What: The queen of Hyperpop is doing “a digital performance”, dj set and chat on her quarantine album how i’m feeling now (which imo is possibly the best album of 2020). No guarantees that the digital performance will have much of a “live” element, but we stan Charli anyway. I’m sure she’ll have some surprises in store.
How Much: $5, all of which goes to LA Alliance for Human Rights
Papi Juice DJ Set at Elsewhere
When: 7pm -10pm EST
Where: Elsewhere ( 599 Johnson Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11237), online at twitch.tv/elseworldtv
What: Elsewhere has been open Thursday-Sunday, but BIPOC Queer party Papi Juice is the first scheduled DJ that I think is worth the trouble of calling Elsewhere to reserve a table for. Reservations for an IRL table are free and filling up fast, so if you’re thinking this sounds like a fun time get one now. You could also just tune in via Twitch if you’re feeling agoraphobic.
How much: Free but if you to elsewhere you have to buy drinks. The set is raising money for Bedsty Strong, probably contingent on how much money the bar makes.
Open Pit Presents Lallapalooza on Minecraft
When: Friday and Saturday, 6pm EST
Where: https://www.minecraft.xxx/
What: A virtual music festival hosted on the game Minecraft isn’t a new. What’s new about this one is the unique combos it presents. Digital pop ballad princess Hannah Diamond going back to back with modern shoe gaze act Planet 1999! Glitchy producers Nomak and Easyfun collaborating on a set! The biggest name here is 100 Gecs, whose musical style of speed up, genre-jumping songs were first conceived for Minecraft festivals.
How Much: Free but you need to buy Minecraft if you wanna fully participate.
