Hello fellow internet prisoners,
I’m Mo, your guide to the queer underground, and this(!) is The Deviant Dispatch. I keep a faggoty ear to the ground, delivering you the latest news on NYC’s greatest underground parties, rock shows, and ACTUAL raves- every fuckin’ week. Plus you’ll get it-girl gossip, cultural speculation, snark, typos, and lots of Charli XCX updates. To throw me some much-needed support, become a paying subscriber, share this with someone, or hit the heart button at the top of the post!
I know I’ve been spoiling you lately with long missives about culture and shit, but this week I’m tired. I will say I went to DC this weekend and saw the Laurie Anderson exhibit at the Hirshhorn museum and would highly recommend. It’s a career retrospective of the visual/performance artist and musician but many of the pieces and newer works hit especially hard. If you happen to be in DC go see it! Now for the people here in NYC: a list of events! I will be appearing at 2 of them as DJ Gay Panic so hopefully I’ll see you there!
XOXO
Mo

Wet Leg LIVE
When: Thursday, 7:00pm
Where: Brooklyn Steele
What: A show/band so big I almost didn’t consider listing it. Is a band “underground” if they’re playing a 1,800 capacity venue? What if they’re bouncy song “Chaise Lounge” is a TikTok hit with over 10 million Spotify streams? The dou Wet Leg have had a very quick rise without even having a debut album out, but it’s possible you might not know who they are. Their music has a lot going for it: the directness of punk, the haze of psychedelic rock, the sunshine of surf, a melodic delivery that brings to mind french 60s pop, a winking sense of humor, and a dissatisfaction with the modern world. Now’s your chance to see how that cocktail plays out onstage.
How much: Advance: $25.00 / Day of Show: $30.00

PRXM NIGHT SIMS
When: Friday, 10pm
Where: All Night Skate
What: The drag children of the House of Quench are paying homage to the classic PC game The Sims. The game was a popular 2000s pastime where you lived you would dress a character, and tell him or her to get a job, flirt, raise children, ect while building your home and eventually a whole town. Think Animal Crossing but with people. The game is so popular that Katy Perry recorded songs in the game’s language and drag queen Juno Birch has built a youtube channel off of playing the Sims on camera. Now the mania comes to Brooklyn.
How much: Free but bring cash to tip the sims
Aunties Brunch
When: Saturday, 12-4pm
Where: All Night Skate
What: This is a drag brunch with some longtime collaborators of mine (class act Islaya and kooky club kid Suburbia) plus some newer faces (Ms Bussy). I will be DJing house, disco, and throwback tunes to get your weekend started right.
How much: Free to attend but bring $20 to tip the queens and get yourself a cocktail.
Pubic Access Live
When: Sunday
Where: The Sultan Room
What: PUBIC ACCESS:Live! is a spin-off of Pubic Access dot com, a cute, freakish video paradise of art, culture, communal healing, and fake orgasms. Artists/starlets/crossdressers Candystore and Jake Brush will host a talkshow with special guests Alissa Bennett, historian of bad behavior, & Mel Ottenberg the editor in Chief of Interview Magazine. There will also be performances by the masked performance artist NARCISSISTER and musician Thesan Pollyanna. I will be DJing (obviously) and playing sound effects during the interviews. There also will be a special guest, who I’m not allowed to talk about.
How much: $25
West Gay: A 10 Year Reunion Situation
When: Tuesday, March 15th
Where: 3 Dollar Bill
What: Originally a more intimate affair in the west side, this party was one of the sparkling examples of inclusive yet cool nightlife that made me want to move to New York. Frankie Sharp has gone on to open Hells Kitchen staples like Club Q and his crowds have gotten more monotonous, but Westgay’s name (and tuesday time slot) brings the promise of more mixed crowds. Big names include rapper saucy Santana (you’ve heard him crow “material gworl!!” on tiktok) and Drag Race contestant Willow Pill.
How much: $35-$50
