Pride Month Just Started But I'm Already Exhausted
fashion spreads, Inferno updates, upcoming parties + more
Hi girlies,
This is The Deviant Dispatch. I’m Mo, your guide to the underground. I write about NYC-based events, gay shit, and cool kid gossip. There will be snark, typos, and lots of Charli XCX updates. If you like what you see, become a paying subscriber, share this with someone, or hit the heart button at the top of the post.
Wow I’m tired!!!! After night after night of IRL parties, shows, and bar hangs it’s all I can do not to pass out immediately after dinner. I’d love to say it’s not effecting the newsletter, but I’m only human. For instance, I promised you I’d share the queer fashion brands that didn’t make the cut for my recent feature in Wussy Magazine. and then…. I didn’t. 😓😓😓 You can scroll through those below before getting into the gossip for this week.

Miscellaneous Gossip
The party Str8 to DVD is about to featured in the New York Times! A photographer and reporter attended their last show and talked to all the performers. Keep your eyes peeled for that, and remember I told you about them first.
Baby Love, the drag queen who earlier this year talked about retiring, is currently on billboards across Tokyo for the clothing brand Sho Konishi.
The journalist Harron Walker, queen of my world, went to Chiquitita’s Veneno tribute night for The Cut. In the piece Chiquitita said she was tired of doing “shitty gigs that pay $75 plus tips” continuing that “I have no interest in performing regularly like I used to pre-pandemic.” Seems like her former Oops! castmates DJ P_A_T_ and Magenta don’t share those thoughts, as they’re both at the Rosemont multiple times a week.
Speaking of DJ P_A_T_, he and Ty Sutherland played a sold-out party at Elsewhere to celebrate Slayyyter’s new record Troubled Paradise.
There’s a new Bushwick music venue called Brooklyn Made opening up in the fall, with a private pool for the bands playing there. Tickets for the shows go on sale today, and the October 7th show with Spirit of The Beehive and Water From Your Eyes looks especially lit. Gothamist has more tea on the venue if you’re interested.
The sex party Inferno is not coming back soon, so stop asking. The host Adam went on Instagram live to say that the space they use won’t be open until September. He also revealed that he was feeling burnt out from doing the party at the beginning of 2020 and envisioned that being the party’s last year. While he didn’t rule out entirely that the party is done forever, he shared that “I don’t wanna bring it back in the same way.” Stay tuned for details.
Finally an XCX update. Charli XCX is a guest judge on the upcoming series of Drag Race All Stars 6. She’s donned a blonde wig for the occasion, because drag. Here’s hoping they make the queens lip sync to “Vroom Vroom”.
That’s all for me!
Scroll on for parties, and if you see in the outside world buy me an iced coffee would you?
Xoxo,
Mo
Hole Pics
When: 6:30 pm Friday June 11th
Where: The Church of Apostles 296 9th Ave, New York, NY 10001
What: I’ve talked about the unhinged drag show / theatre piece known as Hole Pics before, but this Pride month version is extra special. First, the show will be taking place inside a literal church. Second, the show has the honor of being Lady Simon, OG Brooklyn drag ghoul, returning to the stage. Finally, the show is a fundraiser for the organization of For The Gworls which helps black trans folks with costs associated with medical care and housing. There are still a couple slots left for 6:30 so dm @mthrtrsa ASAP.
How much: $35
Brooklyn Pride @ Good Judy
When: Saturday
Where: Good Judy
What: If you’re going to the Brooklyn Pride Parade, Good Judy is the bar to be. From a free daytime party to a drag show upstairs, they’ve got you covered.
How much: Free-$12
A Paris L’Hommie Birthday Show
When: Saturday
Where: All Night Skate
What: I’m glad to see All Night Skate evolving into a destination for parties. This shindig features many of the faces that were there last week (Cuntyham, Paris L’Hommie, Sterling, Thee Suburbia) and some new faces like Manhattan’s Jenae SaisQuoi.
How much: Free
Brooklyn Liberation
When: Sunday, 12pm
Where: Outside the Brooklyn Museum
What: Last summer this protest was rumored to be the largest protest for trans lives in history. This summer we’re all gathering at bars instead of at Black Lives Matters rallies, but anti-trans sentiments in this country are more prevalent than ever. “THIS IS AN EMERGENCY ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THE MORE THAN 100 PIECES OF LEGISLATION THAT HAVE BEEN FILED IN OVER 34 STATES.” Brooklyn Liberation’s website says, continuing “THERE HAVE BEEN MORE ANTI-TRANS BILLS PASSED THIS YEAR THAN IN THE LAST TEN YEARS COMBINED.”
Cancel your brunch plans and show up in a white outfit.
How much: Free
When: Wednesday 6-8pm
Where: 29 Ludlow St
What: This formerly online-only boutique stocks is finally unveiling their permanent retail location. The clothes are cottagecore meets The Matrix. The designers are all young DIY creative types from Parson ect, and have in the past included Ella Emhoff. It’s unclear whether or not there will be drinks served, but alt comedian Ruby McCollister will be DJing.
