Mthr Trsa + Laurel Charleston call out Linux
Also Elon Musk defends his honor
MTHR TRSA, Laurel Charleston, and Meatball in “podcast drag” via MTHR’s Instagram
Hello messy bitches who live for drama,
It’s Mo AKA DJ Gay Panic and this(!) is The Deviant Dispatch. I keep a faggoty ear to the ground, delivering you the latest news on NYC’s greatest underground parties, rock shows, and ACTUAL raves- every fuckin’ week. Plus you’ll get it-girl gossip, cultural speculation, snark, typos, and lots of Charli XCX updates. To throw me some much-needed support, become a paying subscriber, share this with someone, or hit the heart button at the top of the post!
Shoutout to all my new paid subscribers! I’m glad you liked that blind item last week. IF you wanna know what made everyone gag, subscribe to the paid tier and check it out. If you’re short on coins but rich in dirt, submit your own blind item to email@example.com. Check these1 footnotes2 for some examples of the format. If you’re feeling lazy just spill the tea and I’ll work on obscuring the names. Just put BLIND ITEM in the subject matter of your email so I know what’s up.
Now for this week’s main event: MTHR TRSA and Laurel Charleston aired out self-proclaimed downtown it-girl Linux on Meatball’s podcast Sloppy Seconds. For the full audio experience you can skip to 57:21 of the episode. Most of this tea is things I’ve covered in past newsletters, but I’ll summarize for all my new readers: Charleston alleges that Linux and 3 friends attacked her and fellow makeup artist Sterling at 3 Dollar Bill. Linux was (allegedly) upset at Charleston for calling out how misguided Linux’s Escape From New York party was. This party encouraged New Yorkers to fly to Miami (where the Covid restrictions were almost nonexistent) to party in the days before vaccines were available to everyone.
In response to all the blowback at the time, Linux posted as series of tweets alleging that someone had doxxed her address and posted that it was the site of a gang bang. Reportedly hundreds of men arrived, making her feel very unsafe. MTHR TRSA and Laurel Charleston go on to say that Linux was lying about this. “These people literally take a shit and post it on their story, and you’re telling me 99 people showed up to do this and you have no video?” Laurel asked incredulously.
With that can of worms uncorked, the duo aired out many other grievances with Linux. “She (Linux) wears cornrows to the gig” said MTHR TRSA dismissively. Aside from cultural appropriation concerns, MTHR TRSA alleges that Linux beat Jackie Wright3 with a Grey Goose bottle at Space Miami, and Laurel Charleston goes on to say there’s a warrant in Miami out for Linux’s address “for almost killing that girl.” MTHR TRSA goes on to reveal that she moved the dates of her show Hole Pics to days where Linux and her associates wouldn’t be in the club.
I doubt Linux will respond. She’s busy getting ready to start promoting the summer party season as one of Susanne Bartsch’s hosts for On Top (including a special House of X Collab). She also is hosting her own weekly party at Paul’s Casablanca titled Paul’s Dolls and writing a celeb and clout-obsessed column for Paper Magazine.
Someone who will always respond? Azealia Banks. The rapper rejoined twitter and responded to seemingly every question fans leveled at her. Amongst the revelations are that Miley Cyrus wanted Azealia Banks to do a verse for her song “23” but Banks declined. “My biggest disappointments were always being approached for collabs but only being offered opportunities to pigeonhole myself within re-adapted urban aesthetics to compliment white artists” Banks explained in a thread. She also stated that she’d love to go on Ziwe’s talkshow and said she has receipts that Lady Gaga hates Nicki Minaj. Check out her Twitter for even more takes and revelations.
Typo(s) of the week: Last week I misspelled Sky Ferreira’s last name again in the initial email I sent out to my lovely paying subscribers. While I went back to change (most of) the spelling mistakes, I maintain that I will not spell Sky Ferrari’s name correctly until she releases new music.
Turns out I didn’t need to write Sky’s name is my newsletter at all! The rumor that Elon Musk asked Sky out via his team at the Met Gala turned out to be from a parody account posing as the New York Post. The actual New York Post Twitter handle is @nypost, but my millennial ass was fooled af.
With all that settled, here’s my list of event recommendations this week. Please note I did not include PinkPantheress playing a sold out show at 88 palace in manhattan, but if you have a way in I think it’s best to utilize it.
See you in the club!
PUP! + Sheer Mag, LIVE!
When: Wednesday, 8pm
Where: Terminal 5
What: Toronto punks PUP broke big in 2016, but are still going strong and are on tour for a new album. Opening for them are the OG 70s hard rock revivalists Sheer Mag, who are like if Greta Van Fleet were quality. Wear comfy shoes and expect a mosh pit for most of the night
How much: $27.50
The HIRS Collective LIVE!
When: Thursday, 7pm
Where: Our Wicked Lady
What: A queer hardcore punk show for the true heads. There’s none of the melody that PUP utilizes, just the blitzkrieg guitars and bellowed vocals. Great place to catch some queer punks in the wild, maybe mack on some cuties (consensually of course).
How much: $16
Prxm Night: Midsommar
When: Friday, 9pm
Where: All Night Skate
What: The House of Quench has made a habit of throwing themed drag shows with unhinged takes on pop culture phenomenons. Their last show, a Sims 2 themed party, drew a line around the block of queer waiting to get in, a first for All Night Skate. This Midsommar one promises to be as bonkers as it’s horror movie namesake. Get there early to avoid the (possible) wait and nab a seat at the bar.
How much: no cover
* ESCAPE *
What: New club Paragon has been pulling out all the stops to try and beat the 990 Broadway4 curse. I spotted international DJ Fashion Labeija playing there last Saturday night via the space’s private Instagram. That Instagram has been teasing grainy clips of packed dance floors and impressive light shows for weeks, but getting into the club has been rather opaque. You had to have an invite or rsvp to their mailing list. This weekend they’re finally fully opening their doors for a party called Escape with Juliana Huxtable DJing. If this night won’t work, they’re going to have another party called Earth on Saturday for the same price.
How much: $22.50
RINA SAWAYAMA Afterparty
When: Friday, 11pm
Where: Webster Hall
What: Ticket prices for Rina Sawayama’s show have long since skyrocketed, but this afterparty combines the ordinary superstar with the underground nightlife elite for a somewhat affordable price. LIMITDOESNOTEXIST will be DJing along with BUBBLE_T’s CHOPSTIX. The performance art project Girlboss Today will also be sowing seeds of mischief.
How much: $29.50 - $34.50
Str8 to DVD: Night of 1000 Yards
When: Saturday, 7-10pm
Where: C’mon Everybody
What: This edition of Str8 to DVD has an especially stacked lineup. Aside from the formidable resident queens, local Hyperpop artist Mel 4ever will be taking the stage, as well as the devilishly divine drag king Show Ponii, the simply gorgeous Charlotte Harlotte. To cap it all off is Junior Mint, the drag queen whose interpretation of “Something Has To Break” connects the power of Christian faith to the trans political struggle and routinely brings me to tears. Plus, the show will double as the debut of DJ Ten Yards summer mini-collection.
How much: $12.50 online, $15 at the door
Octo Octa: Love Hypnosis
When: Saturday, 10-4am
Where: Public Records
What: Burgeoning house legend and trans icon Octo Octa spins music that references witches and nature even when she’s playing a sweaty packed club. This night is billed as “an extended message on love & the body” and is also Octo Octa’s 35th birthday. If you want a dance party that doesn’t have too much clanging noises this is the gig for you. There’s only (limited) tickets at the door so get there early.
How much: $33
Blind Item a secretive party who’s name is the opposite of less is throwing down this weekend with a linup that includes DJs whose name rhymes with tamagotchi and lemon cakes.

This bassist of a buzzy band signed to sub pop has an aunt on the record label’s board. Nothing makes a demo sound sweeter than nepotism!
This queen claims to be the mother of her drag scene, but has accused other people of pocketing charity money to deflect from pulling the same stunt herself.
unsure on the spelling here, if you know DM me
The venue used to be called Venus in Furs, and has gone through a couple of other names before that, but the clubs never seem to last.
