The flyer for my birthday party, which you should so totally attend
Hi girlies,
This is The Deviant Dispatch. I’m Mo, your guide to the underground. I write about NYC-based events, gay shit, and cool kid gossip. There will be snark, typos, and lots of Charli XCX updates. If you like what you see, become a paying subscriber, share this with someone, or hit the heart button at the top of the post.
My lovely readers, it’s time for me to step away from the Deviant Dispatch for a while. I’ve been hard at work rounding up parties and collecting gossip for over a year. I think its time for a bit of a breather for my birthday.
This is not an ending. It is not a hiatus. It’s not a breakup. Think of it as…. a summer sabbatical. I’ve rounded up the shows you should attend for the coming month of August. My paying subscribers will be getting a post from me about the coolest places to shop in NYC for fall wardrobe resets. And then starting September I’ll be back! Just in time for Bushwig.
But before I go, here are some final gossip tidbits.
Charlene’s little sister Mel Incarnate has put her second song “About Fashion”, and this one is far better than her debut single. My fave verse is “My scandal is my fashion, my chaos is my fashion, my blow job is my fashion.” Relatable content! Sonically the track sounds like something that could have been on Artpop, which true heads know is a compliment.
Linux, club kid and new columnist for Interview Magazine, has caused some drama AGAIN. This time the described “downtown it-girl” took it upon herself to describe the trans girl cliques of NY. One line raised some eyebrows: “There are the hateful Brooklyn ones with chest hair and endless Twitter rants.” Mthr Trsa and Sterling took offense, along with people with hairy chests who aren’t trans. I’m not going to go on Twitter rant, but I might be planning something for behind the paywall..
Sir Babygirl played her first show back, and it was a real ripper. Donning the stage in sequined blazer with the word DYKE across her back, she had fans in the front row screaming every word of songs from 2019’s Crush. There was pop-punk energy aplenty thanks to her 4-piece band and a cover of “Y Control” by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Onstage Sir Babygirl was giving full Cherrie Currie from the Runaways: head banging with a blonde shag haircut, swinging her mic around, and eventually stripping into underwear. It was her new song that really got my attention. “Final Girl” is a riff-heavy anthem sung from the perspective of the girl in a horror movie who lives against all odds. It’s a v apt metaphor the the toil of living today.
That’s it for gossip right now! I’m not coming out from behind the paywall till September, so see you then…..
XOXO,
Mo

Together as My Idea the duo have made quite an impression with their debut EP That’s My Idea, a collection of pop songs that have the broad appeal of the Beatles and the idiosyncrasy of a band like Bleachers. Over DM the band shared they have several more shows planned, possibly signaling that this duo isn’t going anywhere.
