Hello Fellow Deviants!
Welcome to the Deviant Dispatch, your guide to culture that defies the norm. This is a Tuesday edition that focuses on upcoming live streams/virtual events. I feel the livestream fatigue setting in, but I promise the shit I’ve selected is worth your time.
For my paying pigs, this Friday you can expect a roundup of recorded live shows to remind you what IRL concerts were like, and a review of a campy show about Florida crime if you’re still looking for a bit of Tiger King energy. Update to the paid tier of Deviant Dispatch here.
Until then, here’s a couple of drag shows, a indie rock show to raise funds NYC Sex Worker Relief, and a DJ set of mine.
As always thanks to all my readers! <3
Club Quarantine
When: Every night, 9-12:00 EST
Where: Zoom, check @clubquarantine on Instagram at 9pm EST for the code
What: I keep putting this down because the people of Club Quarantine are BRINGING IT. Like honestly you don’t need my newsletter you just need to keep track of who they’re booking. At this point you’ve probably been to a pale imitation of what Club Quarantine is serving (a Zoom “club” with a bored DJ, 13 people nodding blankly, and 20 blank screens), but you deserve the real deal. Tonight they’re celebrating the release of Namesenda’s new single with DJ sets by Singer Hannah Diamond, producer AG Cook, and Twitter-based pop critic Goth Jafar. Check back any other night, it’s sure to be a good time.
How Much: Free
Zoobie Zoom: Discotek
When: Wednesday, 8-9pm EST
Where: Zoom, dm @corona_queens for the code
What: This is a shameless plug! I will be DJing a Zoom pregame for the instagram live show Corona Queens. The show features a lot of baby drag queens so expect to be entertained not only by the ~very cool~ songs I’m playing but by these queens voguing to my tracks on Zoom.
How Much: free but if you feel inclined tip me by venmo @djgaypanic
Cabernet Cabaret
When: Wednesday at 8pm EST
Where: @catccohen on Instagram live
What: Catherine Cohen is one of the best comedians out right now. The standup star also has a musical side to her. BQ (that’s before quarantine) she had a weekly cabaret show at Club Cumming. Now it’s digital, so tune in with a bottle of rose ready. Be careful not to spit wine all over your loungewear. Watch her perform her song “Look at me” if you need convincing.
How Much: free
Smol Data, Fixtures, Lavender Menace
When: Thursday at 8pm
Where: Watch live on Instagram @theduderanchli
What: A creaky indie pop show! This show is presented by the Long Island house venue The Dude Ranch. Headlining is Smol Data, a indie-pop band who adds a heavy dose of analogue keyboards and some discordant guitar together to make music that’s simultaneously cutesy and abrasive.
How Much: suggested donation of $5 to the emergency COVID relief fund for sex workers in NYC
Princess TV
When: Thursday 10pm EST
Where: twitch.tv/princess4ever
What: The SF-based drag party is now going live regularly. Hosted by Florida Man and featuring performances by the incredible (and very crushable) Tito Soto, the party returns to Twitch This Thursday. The hilarious Meatball will be performing, alongside the garbage pail kid of Brooklyn Mini Horrorwitz and others. Past numbers have included Biqtch Pudding living out a Princess Peach Mario Kart fantasy with the help of a green screen. While she won’t be returning, the shows are bound to gag all the same.
How Much: donation based but TIP THE PERFORMERS.
Hole Pics: Stay The Fuck Home Edition
When: Friday
Where: Instagram @holepicsnyc
What: It’s another chaotic edition of Mthr Thrsa’s party Hole Pics. The last one was plagued by spotty wifi but was still a messy good time. It’s been a month and there have been 72,000 drag shows on Instagram Live since then, so hopefully the producers have taken some notes. As of writing this the lineup is unannounced but I’m planning on popping in anyway.
How Much: Free but tip your queens.
Digital Drag Cyber 7
When: Friday 10pm EST
Where:twitch.tv/biqtchpuddin
What: The best place to go if you’ve never seen a modern drag show but you’ve always wanted to take a peak. Biqtch Puddin has made her one-off Twitch show a weekly affair. The Dragula winner is seamlessly mixing big names (Detox) with well-deserving up and comers (Maxi Glamour, Lucy Stole).
How Much: $10 Suggested Donation
Sunday’s Best: a drag Sermon
When: Sunday 4pm EST
Where:@juniormintt on Instagram
What: Junior Mint is one of my favorite new drag performers right now. She’s got defined aesthetic, rocking braids with balloons attached. Her performances are similarly unique. Junior Mint’s numbers combine classic balladry with humorous monologues about trans rights, capitalism, and whiteness. She describes her new Sunday show as a place where “We’ll laugh, we’ll feel positive, but most importantly, you’ll learn something.” Sign me up!
How Much: Free but TiP
