Hey there friends,
Welcome to The Deviant Dispatch. I’m Mo, your guide to the underground world of Brooklyn and beyond. On Wednesday I write about events for free. On Friday I write about gossip for money (paying members only). I’ve recently left my retail job and am going freelance, so all my paying members are making me feel nice and cozy at the moment! Please consider subscribing to support!
Ok, so on with the newsletter. If you haven’t noticed, pop-punk is having a full blown renaissance. Former rapper Machine Gun Kelly is now making whiny songs with Blink-182’s Travis Barker and people are eating it up. 30H!3 is back with a song featuring 100 Gecs. Nylon is publishing oral histories of scene queens. There’s an Emo night party in LA and Brooklyn, but those are on hold right now for obvious reasons.
What never goes on hold? Drag! So I’m excited to bring to you a drag show dedicated to the band Paramore. The group, led by Haley Williams, scored big with their hit “Misery Business” and kept pumping out chart hits for years after.
Read on to find out how to celebrate the group’s legacy tonight for some socially distant drag, along with other fun things to do this week.
xoxo

ICONIC!: PARAMORE TRIBUTE
When: Wednesday, 9pm New York Time
Where: Twitch.tv/itspastiche
What: A drag show of Paramore tribute numbers. The hosts are from Chicago, where the drag is highly individualistic and look focused. That combination of vision and production chops make those queens apt for Twitch shows, where most of the numbers come in the form of pre-edited videos. I’m especially excited for the spooky Scylla (like silicone) and Lost Angeles punk Clit Eastwood.
How much: $7 suggested donation
Slumbermag Presents: Slumber Party
When: Thursday, 7pm New York Time
Where: RSVP for the link here.
What: The music website Slumbermag is dedicated to indie music by women and non-binary people, and their taste is impeccable. This is their first event, featuring a conversation between manager extraordinaire Jeanette Well (who used to manage Mitski), and Alex of the queer label Get Better Records (Empath, Control Top, Dump Him). There will be a musical performance from Mia of Pom Pom Squad, who just finished recording an album (possibly playing new songs?).
How much: Free admission
I’M NOT SORRY I’VE BEEN DRINKING
When: Sunday, 5-8pm New York Time
Where: Secret IRL Location (faithful readers will recall it’s where I once had a weekly DJ gig)
What: A happy hour drag show, with queens the classic glamour Islaya and edgy ingenue Magenta. Should be a high energy afternoon, with DJ JCLEF pumping the tunes between sets. You can reserve tables to make sure you and your crew remain relatively distant as you watch the show. DM a queen for more details.
How much: $10 suggested donation, tip the dolls
