a meme from Bossa Nova Civic Club’s Instagram
It’s Mo AKA DJ Gay Panic and this(!) is The Deviant Dispatch. I keep a faggoty ear to the ground, delivering you the latest news from my corner of the NYC underground: sloppy/artful drag shows, it-girl gossip, buzz bands, cultural speculation, and ravey dance parties. There will typos. There may even be some nepotism at play, but how could there not be with such cool friends? You’re not paying me to be impartial! Speaking of money, become a paying subcriber for just $5 a month for weekly event recommendations. Rejoce! Rejoce! Out of the ashes (literally the building caught fire) Bossa Nova has returned to give the oontz oontz girls and gays something to snort about. The tiny club returned with a big bang Saturday, dropping a flyer for a rave that night with international DJ Juliana Huxtable closing the night. She normally plays to huge warehouses, but she made a return to the 1,900 sqaure foot space to pay homage. As Bossa nova John Barclay pointed out: “We were there at the beginning of the latest wave of the left-leaning, queer-adjacent north Brooklyn dance scene.” They’ve still got their fingers on the pulse, hosting hot reggaeton DJs like Fried Platano and gothy parties like Synthicide this week. I’m personally happy to see them back in action.
