A Drag Queen Got Scalped in BK Last Week
a special 2 for 1 issue with events AND gossip for my non-paying subs
Hello my shes, gays, and theys.
Welcome to The Deviant Dispatch. I’m Mo, your guide to the underground world of Brooklyn and beyond. On Wednesday I write about events for free. On Friday I write about gossip for money (paying members only).
I know I didn’t post a Wednesday newsletter last week. The freelance grind was particularly strong, and I needed a break (My paying subs got a dispatch on Friday about a secret afterparty that night though).
To make it up to you, my non-paying piggies, I’m doing an extra special blowout issue. This one has the event listings you know and love AND the gossip you’d get if you subscribed to the paid tier (just $5 a month or $50 a year).
Miscellaneous Gossip
New York Magazine came for my gig by posting an in depth profile on people partying during the pandemic. It’s worth a read for the quotes alone, like when one partygoer promises a date “I only murder it on the dance floor.” CRINGE!!! Check it out here. For some stories of 8 different people who’ve been partying (including pill-popping queen Cat Marnell) click here.
Local artist Dissgrace has gone semi-viral for creating fuzzy rugs filled with queer symbolism. After posting the first one of a Rush bottle reclaimed for lesbians, they posted a dayglow mat for faggots and a clever reclamation of the Telfar x Ugg logo for trans people. The acclaim is real, and Dissgrace is now thinking of opening a shop. Make sure to subscribe to the paid tier to keep getting updates as I follow this story. Is this story boring to you? Then email me some juicy gossip!
Local queen Chiquitita (formerly Harajuku) has a new day job at the trendy vintage boutique James Veloria. Located in a Chinatown Strip mall, the store has been a fave of downtown denizens since it opened in 2017. Brooklyn queens like West Dakota and Serena Tea have also been longtime fans. If you make the trek to 75 East Broadway you’ll find vintage designers of all stripes for around 100-200 dollars, and now you’ll find Chiquitita holding court as well. After she left Brooklyn to move into her boyfriend’s Chelsea apartment, It’s only right that she completes her transition to Manhattan socialite by landing a job there. Do you know another scene queen with a day job? EMAIL ME.
Local performers pulled out all the stops for thanksgiving. The BK activist and organizer Reagan scalped the drag queen Mini Horrorwitz onstage during a party at Good Judy. The number referenced Wednesday Addam’s iconic Thanksgiving monologue.
That performance now only exists in the memories of the people who were there, but I have another one for you. The noise artist Reagan Holiday collaborated with Sean from the band Machine Girl on a blistering 13 min set. You can watch it on Instagram TV or below, but make sure your volume isn’t too high!
Allegedly the OUT 100 has multiple people on it that are owed money by the publication. TSK TSK TSK. So much for supporting fellow queer people! They’ve had trouble paying freelancers in the past so I’m inclined to believe these rumors. I could go on, but my friend Jake just spoke on the emptiness of brands appearing “woke” for his column Ok, Zoomer so I don’t think I need to. Do you know a brand who isn’t putting their money where their mouth is? EMAIL ME.
News broke that noted Hyperpop producer EASYFUN is hot. The Charli XCX and Bree Runway collaborator has stayed behind the scenes as producers do. Now he’s out of the shadows and in the crosshairs of horny twitter users. This is all because the rapper Shygirl posted a video of him, prompting an outpouring of thirst. Below are some samples
Tbh he doesn’t seem THAT hot to me, but I understand that it’s Covid times and we’re all a little more starved for man meat than we normally might be. What music figure do you think is a secret hottie? EMAIL ME.
The record label Father Daughter Records is putting out a Christmas compilation for charity. The proceeds go to Feed America, and you can listen to the Pom Pom Squad’s cover of Wham’s “Last Christmas” below. Other people include Bacchae, illuminati hotties, diet cig, sad 13, + more!
Phoebe Bridgers is up for best news artist at the Grammys. She’s had quite a year! As much as I like her music (Kyoto is the song of the year) I love that she broke quarantine to go hang out in Ireland with a hunky tv star even more (click for the full report).
Have some tea that you’d like me to spill? EMAIL IT TO ME FOR THE LOVE OF OUR GODDESS CHARLI XCX
And now for some parties!!!1!!!
xoxo
