Hi gay!
It’s Mo AKA DJ Gay Panic and this(!) is The Deviant Dispatch. I keep a faggoty ear to the ground, delivering you the latest news on NYC’s greatest underground parties, rock shows, and ACTUAL raves- every fuckin’ week for just $5 a month. Plus you’ll get it-girl gossip, cultural speculation, snark, typos, and lots of Charli XCX updates. If you’re not convinced but wanna check out the scene, you can subscribe for free to get bi-monthly emails. To throw me some much-needed support, share this newsletter with someone or hit the heart button at the top of the post!
We’re approaching the last weekend of Pride, and even straight people are doing poppers now. I should know: I watched a bunch of punks happily huff them last weekend. With a weekend of festivities approaching and a recession-induced inclination to party your ass off, here are some tips to make it out in on piece.
DRINK WATER. Have a water bottle, drink two waters for every cocktail you drink, and aim for at least 15 glasses of water for the day. This is a wellness blog.
AVOID MANHATTAN AT ALL COSTS After Friday night, stay out of there. It’s NOT worth the tragic and the chaos. Doubly true for Sunday. Oh my god!
CHOOSE FREE PARTIES WHENEVER YOU CAN A marathon of partying means a marathon of spending, so cut out a cover charge whenever possible.
BE CAREFUL OF EDIBLES This isn’t especially pride specific, but is especially forward on my mind after a nasty run-in I had last weekend at a pool party in Bed Sty with infused tacos1.
DECIDE TO STAY HOME When your body is telling you to go home, do it. There’s no room for shame on Pride, and that includes FOMO. Proudly head home so you can rage another day. There will always be another party.
HAVE A LOCAL WITH YOU if you are visiting buddy up with someone who is from here, and listen to them when they express doubts about a plan of action.
With those tips out of the way, let’s get into our itinerary for the week. The following newsletter does leave out annual Pride classics like the Drag March and The Dyke March, which are classics for a reason. It’s by no means an exhaustive list, and even as I type this now I’m seeing more events pop up via the museum Fotografiska New York and the secretive party MORE but I have to put down the computer and work on my DJ sets. My pride picks are affordable, meathead-free, and full of familiar faces for studious Deviant Dispatch readers. Have fun out there.
XOXO
Mo
Filth is My Life
When: Wednesday, 10pm
Where: Mi Sabor Cafe
What: A club party with a divine impersonator? At a Dominican restaurant? What more do you need? Close readers will recognize the names Antpuke, and Princess Peggie, but Kerry Burnett is no slouch behind the decks either. Gay-as-fuck Rapper Kidd Kenn is the cherry on top of this wild lineup. Dress like a Bratz Doll.
How much: $10
SKSKSKS x Dorian Electra
When: Thursday, 10pm - late
Where: Elsewhere
What: Ok the tickets are pricey and it is only a DJ set from Dorian Electra, but still this promises to be a rager. Unlike the normal SKSKSKS that are in dark warehouses, this one promises to be as slick and sparkly thanks to Elsewhere. Simply everyone will be there, and GRRRL is highly underrated in the Hyperpop scene. Plus, I wouldn’t be shocked if a surprise guest appeared.
How much: $40
Club Eat LIVE
When: Thursday, 10pm - 2am
Where: 145 Mulberry Street, Manhattan
What: In Manhattan randomly after 9:30? Looks like you didn’t read my tips!
That’s ok, head over to this party. Not sure if it’s in the Italian restaurant at this address you see on Google Maps, one of the apartments above it (ew), or maybe the roof. No matter where it is, this lineup of electroclash revivalists Club Eat, twitter troll turned international DJ & doll Goth Jafar, and anonymous club affiliate Holyweek is sure to have a crowd that reflects a LES of a bygone era.
How much: Free?
PRXM NIGHT MULTIVERSE
When: Friday, 9pm
Where: All Night Skate
What: While the fashion queers party in Manhattan, the art freaks come out in Brooklyn. House of Quench has quite the first year: members have won pageants, painted famous people, and have become recognizable forces in the BK drag scene. Their long-running show PRXM Night has had it’s share of memorable themes from Midsommar to Sims 2. Their anniversary show promises to bring back the best numbers from those past nights, stitched together with logic borrowed from the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.
How much: No cover in theory, but bring at least $10 in cash to tip out the queens, $20 to be safe.
Zhuzh Factory
When: Saturday, 2-10pm
Where: The Breakers
What: Two tinkerbell parties are better than one! The Deviant Dispatch’s fave corporate party Diet Zhuzh is teaming up with the D.C. party Flower Factory to throw a day party for all the people who like to celebrate Beltane in the woods. The space is mostly outside and very tropical (think fruity cocktails and tacos).
How much: free
Pubic Access LIVE!
When: Saturday, 7pm
Where: The Sultan Room
What: PUBIC ACCESS: Live! is back at The Sultan Room for a far out #GayPride celebration that will go down (ofc) in shimherstory! Your not-messy-at-all hosts Jake Brush and Candystore are tickled pink to welcome BACK painter cockslut Gio Black Peter as their special guest! My pal Bri Joy graces the stage alongside performances by the World's Most Voluminous Squirter, Lola Jean, and BINKY, the terrifying buttslut demon clown. M Lamar2 will be singing sexy serenades and I, DJ Gay Panic, will be on the decks all night. It’s the twisted talk show fitting of an equally twisted pride season.
How much: $25.60
Pride Nonstop
When: Sunday 3pm-10pm
Where: Nowadays
What: There’s still one tier of tickets left for this all out rager at Nowadays, still the raver of taste’s fave destination. Go see queer joy connoisseurs JADALAREIGN and Donis, who will play back-to-back.
How much: $28.10
